Review: Rapha Men’s Explore Long Sleeve Zip Neck Tech T-Shirt

As someone who switches between mountain biking, gravel and road I’m always looking for clothing that can seamlessly transition between all three both in terms of features and style. Additionally I’m looking for something that is versatile in a variety of weather conditions and can be used in a layering system when needed.

Although I often wear the ‘traditional’ tight fitting cycling clothing I do like having some loose fitting tops which I personally find more comfortable, especially when it’s warmer.

I’ve worn the Explore Long Sleeve Tech T-shirt on a whole load of different rides over the last few months varying in length, terrain and temperature. The first thing I noticed was how comfortable it is, even on really long rides on hotter days. The looser fit and lightweight material makes it extremely breathable and the ¼ zip allows you to get some extra ventilation when it gets really warm. Additionally the lightweight material dries really quickly so if you are caught out in a shower without a jacket it won’t take long before the t-shirt is dry.

I’ve worn the Explore Long Sleeve T-shirt on its own and with additional layers such as the Rapha Explore Lightweight Gilet and it works really well under a gilet or jacket. Due to the slightly looser fit, it doesn’t quite work as a base layer under a long sleeve jersey, however I wasn’t expecting it to as that’s not what it’s intended for.

Although it’s missing pockets I personally don’t think they’d work on a t-shirt like this. Additionally I always wear cargo bib shorts so always have storage elsewhere.

Overall I’ve been really impressed with this t-shirt and have worn it a lot more than I initially thought I would due to it’s versatility.

With an RRP of £80 this isn’t a cheap long sleeve tech t-shirt and like most items there are cheaper and more expensive alternatives out there. I personally think the combination of quality materials, features and great fit make it worth the money. If there were some additional colourways, I would definitely purchase another one.
